Moebius was a complete, 100%, bonafide original. Graphic art will never be the same because of his input. And because of that, his legacy remains burning bright, every day.
Born Jean Henri Gaston Giraud, Moebius died on the 10 March 2012 at the age of 74.
A French artist, cartoonist and writer who has been described as the most influential Comic artist (or bandes dessinées) after Hergé.
After adopting the pseudonym ‘Moebius’ in his early career. He created a wide range of science fiction and fantasy comics in a highly imaginative, surreal, almost abstract style.
These works include Arzach and the Airtight Garage of Jerry Cornelius. And the one that we get most excited about was his work with avant-garde (AKA Genius) filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky for an unproduced adaptation of Dune and the comic book series The Incal.
Mœbius also contributed storyboards and concept designs to numerous science fiction and fantasy films, such as Alien, Tron, The Fifth Element and The Abyss.
(Just imagine dropping that CV on someone’s desk)
There is no question that numerous graphic artists could reference his work back in our eyes (whether they do or not is by the by, it’s definitely a compliment). Including Jamie Hewlitt and Tank Girl and Mike Mahon of 2000 AD.
A few examples of Moebius’s work is below, we hope this isn’t the last time you see it.
